Dollar Store DIY Farmhouse Easter Sign

I received the wooden Easter egg, the twine and the burlap necessary for this project at Dollar tree and I already had vinyl and spray paint on hand, so it only cost me $ 2. You can also paint it by hand with chalk paint to give it an even more country-chic look.

To make the words “Happy Easter”, you have several different options. You can use a cutting machine, stencils or trace the letters by hand. I used my Cricut Explore Air 2, black vinyl, and transfer tape. The font I used was free Skinny Police from Dafont.com. I have included detailed instructions below for how to make the words using the Cricut method. If you use the same $ 1 wooden Easter egg from Dollar Tree, make the lettering about 4.5-5 inches wide.

Even though the instructions for this DIY Easter sign inspired by the Rae Dunn-inspired dollar store seem long, it’s actually a very quick and easy project to do. I just wanted to give you a complete step-by-step process on how to use the Cricut design space and transfer tape to complete this project, but if you’ve used the design space before and are familiar with the transfer tape, you have to go through the instructions. You can also watch this informative video on how to transfer the vinyl to your Easter egg using transfer tape. Sometimes it’s more useful to see the process instead of reading it!

Cost: $ 10

  • Cricut Explore AIr 2

  • the scissors

  • glue gun

  • 1/2 stick of glue

  • wood easter egg sign
  • string
  • jute ribbon
  • vinyl black
  • transfer tape
  • spray paint White

  • Spray your Easter egg and let it dry overnight.

  • Make your words according to the method you prefer (see the note below). I chose to use the Cricut Explore Air 2 for this project, so I will describe how I did this.

  • Download the ‘The Skinny’ font and install it on your computer.

  • Open Cricut Design Space and click on the text. Then select the System Font tab and find the font.

  • Type in your words and make them 4.5 “-5” wide if you are using the Dollar Tree Easter egg.

  • Cut your vinyl and transfer the ribbon to the size you will use. I made 5.5 x 6.5 to leave some space on the sides.

  • Load the vinyl mat into the machine.

  • Select the appropriate material type and settings and press OK to start cutting your project.

  • Weed the vinyl by removing everything except the letters from your vinyl.

  • Remove the media from the transfer tape and align it with the vinyl.

  • Press the transfer ribbon onto the vinyl and firmly rub the ribbon over the vinyl with the scraper tool or a credit card.

  • Carefully peel off the vinyl backing from the transfer tape.

  • Line up your words in the center of the Easter egg.

  • Rub the transfer ribbon over the Easter egg using your scrapper.

  • Slowly start to peel off the transfer tape from the vinyl. Flatten the bubbles with your scraper.

  • Glue the string along the edges of your Easter egg.

  • Glue your jute ribbon on top of the Easter egg in the center.

  • Cut a small piece of string. Make a loop and tie it around the top hole to hang it.

You don’t necessarily need a cutting machine to complete this project. You can use stencils, trace them by hand or using this method Here’s a great tutorial on how to create a jute knot on a ribbon.
